Organization Unveiled at National Technology and Housing Conference Seeking to Solve Challenges for Industry and Residents
(Washington, D.C.)—In kicking off the 2024 OPTECH Conference & Expo, we are excited to announce the launch of the Real Estate Technology and Transformation Center (RETTC). RETTC will serve as the premier membership organization focused on the intersection of technology and real estate to benefit housing providers, renters and communities.
The organization will bring together leaders from both technology and real estate, leveraging their collective expertise to drive innovation and help address America’s housing challenges. RETTC has named Kevin Donnelly as its Executive Director & Chief Advocacy Officer. Donnelly is a seasoned government affairs professional who has spent significant time over the last decade focusing on the intersection of technology, connectivity and housing policy.
By having a dedicated focus on real estate technology and innovation, and by uniting both real estate and technology leaders, RETTC creates a unique and compelling value proposition. This approach also strengthens the credibility of RETTC’s advocacy, ensuring that its policy positions are deeply informed by insights and experiences of its diverse membership of tech and housing interests.
“We need to show the world how innovation in real estate technology can improve outcomes for all stakeholders in real estate, especially our nation’s renters. RETTC was created to champion greater adoption of real estate technology, enhance understanding of how technology in real estate works, and to support the responsible development of real estate related technology and its use by housing providers,” said Kevin Donnelly, RETTC’s Executive Director & Chief Advocacy Officer. “We are the only organization focused on advocacy and education at the intersection of technology and real estate, uniting both sectors to foster innovation to the benefit of renters and the communities they live in while also helping policymakers tackle a growing and complex landscape.”
Real estate technology has great opportunity to enhance communities, expand housing affordability, drive economic progress for millions of Americans and lead to improved resilience across the built world. It comes at a time when policymakers are exploring issues like artificial intelligence, enhanced internet connectivity, and ways to ensure data privacy and security systems remain strong.
“Policymakers should know that innovation in real estate technology is a force for good. New data-driven tools are allowing housing providers to lower costs, offer residents better service and overcome the many obstacles to building much-needed new housing,” said National Multifamily Housing Council (NMHC) President Sharon Wilson Géno, which is affiliated with RETTC. “RETTC will speak with a ‘pro-housing’ and ‘pro-tech’ voice in support of the responsible use of innovative technology in real estate and could not come at a more important time.”
RETTC will create opportunities for knowledge-sharing, develop research and policy materials, and help its members stay aware of new technologies and their applications as they become available. RETTC will develop year-round workshops and collaborative sessions as well as the flagship OPTECH Conference & Expo, the premier event focused on tech and operations in the real estate industry and the Technology and Data Summit annually.
