House Lawmakers Release Data Privacy Framework

Rundown
House lawmakers introduced the SECURE Data Act and the GUARD Financial Data Act as part of a coordinated push to establish new federal consumer privacy frameworks. The SECURE Data Act would create a baseline national privacy standard for entities outside the financial sector, while the GUARD Financial Data Act would modernize the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act and update privacy requirements for financial institutions. Together, these proposals signal renewed momentum in Congress to move beyond the current patchwork of state laws and deliver a unified national approach to data privacy.
