Advocacy at RETTC

RETTC champions responsible technology innovation, adoption and policy in real estate. This work affects the residents and communities we serve, every aspect of business operations and our ability to drive innovation across the economy.

Advocacy and public policy are a focal point of RETTC’s work. Our advocacy efforts bring together housing providers and technology leaders to influence positive change and ensure technology can continue to play a critical role in shaping a positive future for real estate.

We educate policymakers by providing expertise on the real estate technology marketplace, the opportunities presented by emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and ways to leverage technology to address many of our nation’s long-standing housing challenges and improve housing affordability.

Technology in real estate is a force for good.

Our Advocacy Approach

RETTC represents a diverse network of real estate professionals, technology innovators and rental housing leaders who understand the transformative power of technology in addressing our nation’s housing affordability challenges, lowering operational costs and driving better housing outcomes for our nation’s renters. We advocate on behalf of owners, developers, property managers, technology providers and investors, ensuring their voices are heard in critical policy discussions.

Our advocacy is guided by a nonpartisan approach, focused solely on advancing the real estate technology sector for the benefit of all. We support both the responsible use of technology by housing providers and the responsible development of solutions by technology providers. We work to ensure that new policies and regulations don’t stymie pro-consumer innovations in real estate technology while also upholding the strong pillars of consumer protection, such as the Fair Housing Act and the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Policy Priorities & Issue Stances

RETTC’s main mission is to promote the use of technology to improve housing development and finance, increase much-needed housing supply, reduce operational costs, enhance resident experiences and improve housing affordability for American families.

However, much of our advocacy work is focused on these key areas:

Artificial Intelligence & Emerging Technologies

We ensure that policymakers understand the positive impact tech-driven solutions have in achieving pro-consumer and pro-housing outcomes and the need to avoid regulation that could hinder innovation.

Data Privacy &
Security

We advocate for a strong federal data privacy and security standard that preempts an increasingly problematic patchwork of complex state-level regulation that is burdensome and costly.

Connectivity & Infrastructure Modernization

We support investments in broadband connectivity that can end the digital divide across our nation. We want to break down barriers to broadband deployment, access and adoption while avoiding unnecessary and costly regulation of the multifamily broadband market.
